The shadows have always been my friend. As my back melds against the cold walls of the castle, the darkness of the night curling sweetly around me, I’m reminded of our relationship once more.

And as Ryke thunders into Damien’s side for the second time, I’m also reminded that these men and I do not have an open relationship with my first lover, the darkness.

“Would you pick up the fucking pace?” Ryke growls.

Damien turns on him, and it’s Krave turn to be the peacemaker.

Kind of.

“Listen, listen: I’ll gladly thrust in between you two if we’re going to be pounding into one another all night.” He waves his hand like it’ll be a real inconvenience, but he’s willing to take one for the team.

Okay, he’s not really a peacemaker. But he does shut them both up as they’re scowling at him now, instead of each other.

“I’m going in. You’re all waiting outside.”

“I feel like I’ve heard that line before,” Ryke says, folding his arms solidly over his chest.

…Right…

“I can go in.” Krave steps forward. “I can go unnoticed. You two can’t sneak down a hall for more than two seconds without your cocks slapping against one another.”

Okay he is definitely not the peacemaker.

“Fuck you!” Ryke hisses.

Dammit, why did mother insist they come? I told her I didn’t need help.

No one ever listens to me.

And now look at where it’s gotten me: into a pissing contest outside the castle of doom.

“Can you three hold it the fuck together for one minute?” At the sound of my harsh scream of a whisper, silence finally settles between them.

Fucking finally.

“I’m going to take you somewhere, and none of you are ever to speak of it again,” I instruct with all seriousness.

“I love this already,” Krave says as the other two nod.

I shake my head, but quietly lead them to the far side of the castle. The aroma of roses faintly wafts through the chilled night air, but my mother’s beautiful garden is just out of sight. Instead, I stop at an old brick that sticks out just slightly uneven from the others along the western wall.

The Shadow Guard would kill me right now if they knew.

“Well well well. If it isn’t the twice removed Princess of Roses.” The cruel cutting tone isn’t hushed at all. It’s spoken freely and emerges like the first rays of an eclipse from the darkness.

My eyes close slowly, simply to stop myself from glaring at him.

“Sev,” I say somewhat politely through clenched teeth.

I turn to my fellow Shadow Guard. The smirk I expect to find on his face isn’t there. Dark scruff highlights his olive skin.

“We need your help,” he tells me without any further bullshit as he pushes open the invisible door, swinging the brick wall fully open to the back of the Shadow Guards hidden room. The light is scarce once inside. Filing cabinets block our view, so the four of us have to zig-zag our way through the small room and into the area where the real work takes place.
